Christian has been very active in developing and promoting GeoExt for a long time.

I’ll start with my +1.

Andreas.

On Apr 16, 2015, at 11:59 , psc-bounces@geoext.org wrote:

The attached message has been automatically discarded.
From: Till Adams <adams@terrestris.de>
Subject: Future of GeoExt
Date: April 16, 2015 at 11:59:26 AM GMT+2
To: psc@geoext.org, Christian Mayer <chris@meggsimum.de>

Dear GeoExt-PSC!

I contact you as shareholder of terrestris, because I am a little bit worried about the future of GeoExt.

For us at terrestris GeoExt was, is and will be an integral part of our base-technology and I know, there are some others having similar interests. This does not obligatory mean, that we will not follow other movements such as Angular or Ember or s.th. similar. But for now we have some customers with long-term contracts having a real interest in further development of GeoExt.
Appropriate talks e.g. at recent FOSSGIS conference also have shown, that there is definitely interest in FOSS4G/FOSSGIS-community to have a version "GeoExt-x" working well with ol3.

For this purpose, we are in preparation of a code sprint similar to that one in May 2012 here in our office in Bonn.
The goal is to create a library, that works well with ExtJS5 (which GeoExt 2.1 already does as you know ;-)) and/or ExtJS6 (which is already knocking on the door) and also with ol3.
That one might be called "GeoExt3".

This movement and ideas cause some issues, that of course affect you as PSC. Formally you are the entity to decide, whether the project wants to support ol3 and whether a new created libary will be part of the GeoExt-project, named "GeoExt3".
So this is kind of application for a decision about "GeoExt3" ;-)

But - I said, I also have some worries...
Knowing that at least some of you are not **really** active in the project (maybe only temporarily ;-)) and also knowing that some of former supporting companies and organizations switched to other base technologies, I wonder about the future of GeoExt.

I am not in the position to decide anything about GeoExt, but with this email I want to ask carefully everybody, what your plans with GeoExt look like?

Also, in my eyes Christian Mayer (who is not at terrestris for more than 2 years now ;-)!) would be a great addition to PSC and also a person, that would push the GeoExt project forward. So I would like you to open the doors for further development and let you think about nominating Christian for joining PSC.

Regards,

Till

------------------------------------------------
terrestris GmbH & Co.
