Hi,
I tried to find a solution for this problem and I have found... a wrokaround. But, maybe, this will help to find a solution ;-)

Have a look at: http://dev.geoext.org/sandbox/cmoullet/ux/Bing/examples/BingExample.html
The problem comes from the loadMapObject function of http://trac.openlayers.org/browser/trunk/openlayers/lib/OpenLayers/Layer/VirtualEarth.js#L103
When this function is called, the map size is 1x1. So,in order to workaround that in the example, I firstly created the mappanel with an empty map and then added the VE layers in the map. Seems to work, but any more elegant solution is welcome,
I've tried also to create a slippy GeoExt map with bing as layer. But I don't think it's about the resize of the map. Instead, if I look instead the yellow square with firebug I've got a message which told that :
> The VE Layer was unable to load correctly. To get rid of this message, select a new BaseLayer in the layer switcher in the upper-right corner. Most likely, this is because the VirtualEarth library script was not correctly included. Developers: For help getting this working correctly,
Hi,
I developped a small application in GeoExt to compare baselayers - Google vs Yahoo vs OSM : http://geotribu.net/applications/baselayers/index.html
I try to add the bing maps (as baselayer) in a mappanel, but without success.
I use the same method as for google layer but I always have my map in blue with a little piece of yellow in the top left of the map.

It seems that the same problem as following : http://www.mapfish.org/pipermail/users/2009-August/001690.html
But I haven't found any solutions to solve the problem.
I can confirm that this is the same problem. I think the reason is that Bing doesn't like to be resized in early stage of loading it's API, and the way a map is created in a GeoExt MapPanel (i.e. without an existing container) makes OpenLayers create a small map first (I guess that's the small yellow rectangle), which will be resized as soon as the container exists. We had similar issues with the Google Layer, but most of these were resolved in OpenLayers.

Having said that, there is no solution yet, and I am not aware of someone working on it.

Regards,
Andreas.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
