Hi,<div>I'd like to share some thoughts related to this discussion. </div><div>In general, GeoExt has to contain the components necessary for the creation of Web-GIS applications. In that sense, it can't be compared with ArcView/whatever gis applications, but I can totally imagine that GeoExt contains the components that would allow the creation of applications equivalent to ArcView/whatever gis applications. </div>
<div>Regarding the content of the 1.0, I consider that it is impossible to define a list of mandatory/not mandatory feature. It is probably more important to analyze aspects like code quality, other library support (extjs 3.1, OL 2.9,...), documentation, stability. </div>
<div>Regarding the feature list, it's quite obvious to say that it is guided by customer requirements. Chris's list is guided by the OpenGeo customers, Yves's one by the boreal-is customers and mine is guided by Camptocamp customers. So, here are the features that I'd like to see in GeoExt, without order preference and without considering release 1.0:</div>
<div>- 3D Integration (Google Earth plug-in)</div><div>- StreetView integration</div><div>- Import/Export vector data</div><div>- Feature editing</div><div>- Printing</div><div>- Pure client side printing</div><div>- <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; border-collapse: collapse; ">Redlining</span></div>
<div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">- Routing</span></font></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; border-collapse: collapse; ">- Styling</span><div>

<font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">- GeoStat</span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">- Search/recenter/shortcuts</span></font></div>
<div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">All these features have to be has much as possible independent of server side. </span></font></div>
<div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">In order to define an order, we could make pair-wise comparison. But, inherently to OpenSource community, the order will most probably depends on the efforts of the community members.</span></font></div>

</div>Well, I was answering the other Chris' question "What makes GeoExt a<br>
compelling mapping toolkit?" largely based on the feedback of users<br>
around me. There is no question that GeoExt is ready for 1.0 almost as<br>
is though, but to make it "compelling" will take more than the ability<br>
to view data and have limited editing capabilities.<br>

</div>The whole point is what is the scope of a "desktop-style GIS app" ?<br>
Again, no question GeoExt rocks and will rock even more with all the ux<br>
goodies on the backburner.<br>
