Hi Robert,
I'm not sure I fully understand what you're trying to achieve, but with
ExtJS you can define different types of layouts to organize your panels.
See in the examples page [1], under the "Layout Managers" section.
This one [2] uses the "border" layout defining a "south" region for a
footer... Could it be that even though you specified that you didn't
want to define a "south" region it could look like what you're trying to
achieve ?
