[Users] Layers panel is empty, how to show layers in geoserver

Hi,
Am a newbie, I have just downloaded the GeoExt styler extension and
extracted the contents of the zip file into www folder after unzipping the
contents of the REST plugin into WEB_INF/lib, but when i open this
http://localhost:8080/geoserver/www/styler/index.html , the Layers Panel is
empty, i.e it does not show any layers. How do I get it to show layers from
geoserver. Any suggestion or direction as to how i should proceed would be
appreciated.
