[Users] Geoext.tree - put button or hyperlink next to layer layer

Hi,

I was wondering which steps I would need to take to modify the Geoext layertree 
in order to place a link which opens an ext.window to show metadata about the 
layer.

Is this something I could do without extending geoext because I´m not that 
advanced yet!
