[Users] Clearing state - how to do it?

Mostly I am very happy with setting state with stateid. It means 
backbutton takes me into a map as it was etc etc. However, I have a case 
where I would like to explicitly clear state (I have effectively created 
complete new map content). While I do a map.zoomtoExtent as the new map 
is loaded, the mapPanel overrides that with values from state. Ideas on 
how to do that?
